Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience OR BA/BS Degree in Agriculture, natural resources agronomy or related field of study.

  • 30 years of government experience in writing/editing, document prep and layout, as well as public affairs and web design; experience using Microsoft Office suite, as well as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro (ensuring 508 compliance of all documents).
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, ARCVIEW (GIS), Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS), Field Sampled Vegetation (FSVEG), Forest Service Activity Tracking System (FACTS)

Duties:

The incumbent will work with and under the direction of the Natural Resource Staff Officer, and as applicable, with Six Rivers National Forest district and supervisor office employees acting as advisor, mentor and to provide field-based services to achieve post-fire disturbance activities including reforestation, integrated vegetation-fuels reduction and timber sale preparation tasks associated with the Program of Work.

  • Technical expertise and services will involve analysis (modeling) of vegetation, mentoring foresters on site assessments, forestry practices, equipment use, data management, monitoring protocols and accomplishment reporting (FACTS).   90%
  • Refining the Forest Landscape Design and supporting plan-to-implementation documents linked to the Six Rivers Hazardous Fuels and Fire Management Project.   10%

  • Information awareness security training on-line.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel may be necessary to complete field work and mentor foresters in equipment use and forestry practices.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: A Job Hazard Analysis will be required to be read and signed prior to initiating any field work. Personnel will be required to have a current driver's license to drive vehicles for the project.
  • Required Safety Gear: Hard hat, leather boots (at least 811 height), long pants.
  • Safety Gear Use: Personnel engaged in field work must wear a hard hat, leather boots and long pants when on field assignment.
