The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals age 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Older Worker Career Center (NOWCC). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. The NRCS provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff that are doing important work every day. The enrollment relationship between NOWCC and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate his or her enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NOWCC and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee. NOTE: An ACES Enrollee is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NOWCC. An ACES Enrollee is a participant in a grant program, which is established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the USDA-NRCS and administered by NOWCC.


Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in drafting or civil engineering technology application OR AA Degree in General Studies, Certificate in drafting or engineering technology

  • Knowledge of design, layout, and checkout of engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent computer programs, or knowledge of standard conventions and practices of engineering drafting concepts and standards.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience required with Windows, Copying Machine, MS Word, MS Excel
  • AutoCAD; Civil 3D

Provides technical support to the field staff, for engineering activities within the State Office by assisting in the AutoCAD development, creation, and conversion of exiting engineering standard drawings, development, and drafting of engineering plans. On occasion assists with engineering works including topographic surveying, engineering analysis, project quantity calculation, and other related engineering duties.

  • Assists other personnel with engineering activities that supports the implementation of Farm Bill programs. Most often this is accomplished by utilizing AutoCAD, Civil 3D and similar programs to prepare construction drawings.   50%
  • Assists in the development and/or conversion of existing NRCS engineering standard drawings. This is accomplished by utilizing AutoCAD and NRCS programs for engineering analysis.    40%
  • Provides training to other Field Office staff with engineering related activities.   10%
  • Mandatory Computer Security, Unconscious Bias, Diversity Training, Ethics Training, FOIA Training
  • Overnight travel: 2-15 days per year
  • Health and Safety Considerations: General safety training as required by all NRCS personnel.
  • Required Safety Gear: Shoes/boots compatible with walking ¼- ½ mile in plowed fields, adequate clothing to prevent sunburned skin, and heavy coat, gloves, etc. for minimal winter exposure.
  • Safety Gear Use: Spring, summer, and fall outdoor activities not to exceed 8 hours of continuous exposure to the out-of-doors. Winter exposure will be limited to normally consider safe intervals.
