The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals age 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture?s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Older Worker Career Center (NOWCC). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. The ACES program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff that are doing important work every day. Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in surveying, working with landowners, checking conservation practices implementation. OR AA Degree

  • Valid State Driver?s license
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel

The incumbent of this position will serve as a Conservation Field Technician for the Bartow Field Office. The incumbent will assist the field office with Farm Bill Program assistance and practice planning/checkout with a particular focus on grazing systems. Activities include herbaceous weed control planning and checkout, brush management planning and checkout, cover crop planning and checkout, conservation cover / pasture and hay-land planting planning and checkout, correspondence with producers regarding program eligibility, and completion of other various practice job sheets.

  • Assist in developing and carrying out schedules for application and maintenance work for USDA conservation programs. Integrate established conservation practices into a system such as rangeland, pasture, cropland and hayland land use management. Prepare basic conservation plans where local practices serve as precedent for combining several conservation measures.   40%
  • Follow up on conservation plans with landowner to encourage and arrange for proper maintenance of established conservation practices and to schedule application of planned practices.   40%
  • Performs engineering surveys, laying out and staking standard conservation practices, and checking that all practices are installed according to design. Collects information to develop engineering designs. Completes lower approval class designs (under direction of the area engineer) lay out designs in field, monitor installation and certify to District Conservationist or Area Engineer that installation meets NRCS standards & specifications.   20%
