This position supports the Bureau of Land Management Coeur d'Alene Field Office. ? The BLM Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the BLM to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? BLM ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 30 weeks. ? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the BLM or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under BLM direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. BLM ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 year(s) of experience in Natural resources management OR BA/BS Degree in Biological Sciences/Environmental Sciences OR Previously completed training in Herbicide Application

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, ARCVIEW (GIS)
  • BLM Software - S1 data collection
Duties:

Enrollee will support a variety of Natural Resources including surveying, inventorying, collecting and analyzing natural resources. Will provide input in to the Annual Work Plan, limited office support and data entry.

  • Invasive species: treatments/inventory/monitoring   50%
  • Wildlife: condition assessment/monitoring   15%
  • Restoration: implementation/monitoring   20%
  • Forestry: layout/monitoring   10%
  • Botany: special status species condition assessments   5%

  • Health and Safety Considerations: Enrollee will be trained by and treatments will be supervised by Licensed Pesticide applicator
  • Required Safety Gear: Safety glasses, nitrile gloves, chemical resistant boots, hard hat, decontamination equipment
  • Safety Gear Use: Herbicide handling and application
  • Physical requirements: The position requires varying proportions of office and field oriented duties. Office duties will often require long periods of time at a duty station inputting, organizing, and interpreting data. Office duties also require significant amounts of time coordinating and planning program factors with staff, outside interest groups, and other agencies. Field duties may involve long hours of driving, hiking, climbing, and other forms of outdoor physical activities. Field trips may vary from one day to two weeks in duration. The incumbent is expected to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle/ATV/UTV in remote areas.
